
In Kolhapur, structural engineer Chetan Patil, one of the two individuals named in the FIR related to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse in Malvan, turned himself in to the Kolhapur police at 12:30am on Friday. Acting on a tip-off from a friend, he expressed his intention to surrender. Superintendent Mahendra Pandit of the Kolhapur police confirmed that Patil, a resident of Shivaji Peth in Kolhapur city who was staying in Chikodi in the Belagavi district of Karnataka, was handed over to a Malvan police team promptly after the FIR was filed. Following a medical examination, Patil was taken to Malvan for further legal proceedings. Patil, along with sculptor Jaydip Apte, was charged under various sections of the law. Inspector Ashok Kolhe from the Malvan police stated that although the accused had been apprehended, the sculptor was still at large. Patil is also a professor at a private engineering college and was responsible for the project design as a structural engineer.
